(Lisa's own words):
Being a philosophical person by nature, full of questions such as “who are we?” and “what are we doing here?”, my work as a musician shows signs that reflect this. This work, which goes hand in hand with other areas of my life, took me to a place where I could envision two projects that are quite connected to each other: The Community Garden Music Project and The Indonesian-American Cross Cultural Music Project .
As a city girl, growing up in cities in the most modern way, I felt the need to reconnect with nature. Being busy in the garden tending to vegetables and fruit, which I harvested, ate and shared, resulted in a feeling of being close to the earth. Looking at the soil and sprouted seed, I saw how people sustain themselves, since the time of our ancestors. And although separated by geographical distance and developing into different groups having distinct cultures and various linked histories, we are from the same soil, water, air and sun. That insight brought me on to the quest of getting to know us as one people by first figuring out my family tree, and how this tree connects with other trees in the human family of earth.
